China's Logistics Market to be World's Largest by 2020, State Post Bureau
China wants to further expand the country's courier express network and develop its domestic logistics market as the world's largest by 2020, Xinhua news agency said, quoting a report by the State Post Bureau (SPB), the country's postal regulator.
In its 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), SPB aims to build an efficient, safe and technically advanced logistics network that covers the whole nation with high-quality services.
Ambitious aims
The plan envisages that by 2020, all post and deliveries shall be trackable, while customers will have a wider range of choices in the type of services.
SPB plans also call for a better connection of its logistics services to the global network and improve the coverage and efficiency of international express deliveries in the five-year period.
Targeted support from Beijing
Logistics companies currently operate 183,000 shipping facilities throughout the country, including small offices that handle inbound and outbound shipments. In addition, shipping services plan to build another 200 large distribution centres around the country in coming years, SPB said.
The government will promote the logistics sector through the Internet Plus action plan, enhance delivery security, and boost resource efficiency so that the sector will develop in an environment-friendly way, the Xinhua report noted.
SPB prognosis show that over 8 billion deliveries are expected to be made in the first quarter of 2017 with revenue likely to reach over 100 billion yuan (US$14.5 billion). In the fourth quarter of 2016, 10.2 billion deliveries were made, up 47.2% year on year.
